Guangzhou Day 2

We slept late this morning and for the first time Miss Faith woke us up. After breakfast we decided we would go to the Chen Clan Academy. Basically it is an Academy built by all these people with the last name Chen so that their families would receive high quality education. They raised money all over the country from people named Chen. Now it is a historical site here in Guangzhou. We decided to be adventerous and brave the Subway as our mode of transportation. Faith wasn't crazy about sharing her personal space with all the people. She tried to pry one lady's hand off the bar because she didn't want her close to her hand :) We also discovered she doesn't like the waiters to strap in her high chair. The first time this happened she cried so I picked her back up. She wouldn't let me set her down until the waiter had left. We are loving Guangzhou. There are many adoptive American families here and we have run into them everywhere we go. It is nice to walk down to breakfast and see 5-6 families like us. Several of the families site see together since their agency uses the same guides. We have our guide to ourselves. We aren't stared at as much so it has made us feel more comfortable. Alot of the locals have learned English so we are able to communicate more with them. Faith contines to do well. She is crying less when Brian walks off and is more comfortable with me soothing her to sleep. She has Mama down great and knows how to use it. I of course go running when she calls my name. She gave me my first kiss yesterday and more today when I was laying her down for the night. She kissed Brian today as well. She is loving but doesn't give it away freely which is great. She wants us to carry her everywhere but is very independent in the hotel room. We are still working on brushing her teeth. I was able to get the bottom pretty good but her top is very sensitive due to her cleft palate. It drives me crazy that her teeth haven't been cleaned really good. After going to the Chen Academy, we headed back to the hotel. The weather this morning was very humid from the morning rain. So we were eager to get back to the hotel for a while. Brian went and picked up lunch from Subway. I told Mom it tastes the same except Dad's bread is fresher than theirs. We picked up a menu for them. After nap we went to Trust Mark which is their Walmart. We needed to pick up some fruit for Faith but left with much more. We found some toys for the boys and books for Owen's class. We had ventured out on our own and got a little lost on the way back...that was fun considering it was raining. After we put Faith to bed we Skyped with Owen's Kindergarten class and another K class. The school's server was down so someone from the board went to the school to fix it just so we could Sype. Our close friend, Kerri, teachs 4th grade there and she had talked with Owen's teacher, Mrs. Donna, and they thought it would be a great experience for Owen's class. We showed them that is was dark outside so they could understand the time difference. We showed them the Chinese drums, a Panda bear, Faith's silk, the Subway menu, chop sticks and a book with English and Mandarin. Lastly, we answered a few questions. Owen is pretty shy and rather not have the spotlight on him so when he came in the room his face was very red but he handled it very well. He told us later that he thought it was fun. Kerri said the kids loved it and talked about it all day. Brian and I really enjoyed getting to do it. Well, I think that is about it for the day.
